Tetris Effect: Connected... 4 player offline? (2024)

Tetris Effect: Connected on sale on the Switch. I notice on DekuDeals that it says 4 player offline. Ooh, nice. I had heard that the 3v1 AI in some special events allows users to be the 1. So I bought it. But I cannot find ANY 4 player, or 3 player Connected mode, all the others are 2 player modes (which seems pretty silly to me).

So now that I cannot see any 4 player multiplayer mode I click through to the Canadian page for the game, it only says 1-8 players. Check Germany, same. Check Japan and I see it says what DekuDeals said. The Japanese site does list it at which Google translate confirms:

But I don't have 4 player offline. I asked someone else and they said they couldn't find the option either. Does anyone think the 4 player mode (basically, where one person plays as the AI in Connected mode, as sometimes happens in the weekend events) is region locked, somehow?

My plan was to call in to Nintendo and demand a refund. And say that I was lied to by their website. But the Canadian and (checking...) US site both just say up to 8 players. So I don't know if I can get away with it or not. I can say their website DO say this. I feel I did my research.

I don't know about the 8 player portion, but 4 player connected mode is where one person plays the boss and the other 3 players try to defeat him. Any position can be filled by the AI.

You can invite 6 other players to spectate a 1v1 match as well, but of course that shouldn't count as an 8 player mode.

multiplayer -> play -> local match -> connected will get you to the 3 vs 1 ai

the 3v1 non ai version of connected shows up on saturdays

No no no. I want 4 players. 0 AI. I notice you said 'other two slots' but I want access to all 4.

I don't think this is correct. It only let me fill 3 of those slots with my friends.

Does it only work some Saturdays or all Saturdays?

Pretty sure there's no 4 player co-op per se if that's what you mean, it's always three players against a boss, which can be a player, is it not?

Their website says:

EFFECT MODES: WEEKEND RITUAL
A special "Weekend Ritual" event will run for 24 hours each weekend, during which all players of the Weekend Ritual can play a specified mode to earn points towards a Community Goal. If 100% of that Community Goal is reached in the 24 hour period, a special in-game avatar will unlock for all players who participated in the event. A Weekend Ritual event like this will run every weekend after launch, spotlighting different Effect Modes each week.

yeah, should work in local mode as far as i know. and it's every saturday as it's part of the weekly ritual

Yes, seems terrible to be honest. Locking this behind a time slot, and SOUL once the servers go down.

Should have bought puyo tetris 2 lol...

But yeah maybe they should patch it later so you can have a truer free for all by 4 players.

Why would that be a benefit over Puyo Puyo Tetris 1?

We often make teams, 3 on 1, with some of them being easy, some normal, and the 1 set to hard to make it even. It's annoying. And it uses unclear language. But it works. What does 2 add to couch multiplayer?
